Last week we talked about the birth and early days of the Advocate. We will pick up where we left off, at a time when Ed Conley was a young inexperienced newspaper man. He was a small man in stature, but a large man when it came to right and wrong. We pick up in his early struggle with the Advocate.
Although big city newspaper men became rich, the small-town newspaper man is lucky to make ends meet. That was Conley's first problem after buying the paper. Subscribers were many, but those that actually paid was another thing.
