Bernard E. Shields

WILMINGTON—Bernard “Bernie” E. Shields, 77, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 29, 2018 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.             Born Nov. 3, 1941 in Minooka, he was the son of James and Margaret (Ward) Shields.
Bernie worked as a service manager in the automotive industry for many years and retired from Sunny Hill Nursing Home. He attained 10,000 hours of volunteer service with the Morris Hospital transportation department.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Cameron (Jodi) and Dan (Debbie); grandchildren: Megan, Bobby, Ryan, Collin, Katie, Aubin, Cassie, and McKenzie; great-grandchildren: Hayden, Adrian and Alianna and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Robert and brothers: Robert, George, Jim, and Gordy.
A visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the U.C. Davis-Callahan Funeral Home. Enhanced video tributes will be played during the visitation. A Celebration of Bernie's Life will immediately follow the visitation with Pastor Bill Shields officiating.  
Aqua Cremation rites will be accorded.Inurnment will take place at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery in Romeoville.
Preferred memorials may be made in Bernie's name to Morris Hospital Transportation or to We Care of Grundy County Food Pantry.
