Farmers market opens next week

STAFF REPORT

Locally-sourced produce and handcrafted items are the centerpiece of the village of Coal City’s farmers market and it’s a concept that will be built upon as Market Fresh on Broadway enters its fourth season.
Once again, the markets will be held in Campbell Memorial park and run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following Saturdays—July 20, Aug. 3, Aug. 17, Sept. 7 and Sept. 21. Given the success of last year’s weeknight markets, two have been scheduled for this season with the first just one week away on Thursday, July 11. The second is set for Aug. 8. The evening markets will be open from 4 to 7 p.m.
Since its inaugural season, the market has continued to grow with new vendors and a steady flow of customers looking for fresh produce, baked goods, gourmet food items, flowers and gifts.
Slated to participate in the first market of the season are Perkins Farms, Store House Farms, Nettle Creek Lavender Farm, Apisera Craftworks, Sunshine Garden Center, Wills Family Farm and Candy and Corn.
Vendors, food purveyors, local organizations and entertainers interested in participating in the markets can learn more about by contacting Linda Sula at Coal City Village Hall, 815-634-8608.
Market Fresh on Broadway is sponsored by the village of Coal City and its Park Board.
