Richard A. Gilmour

MORRIS—Richard A. Gilmour, 82, of Morris, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, May 31, 2017.
Born June 1, 1934 in Morris, IL, Richard Allan, was the son of Allan "Lad" and Esther (Hill) Gilmour. He was a 1952 graduate of Coal City High School, and went on to earn a bachelor of arts degree from Millikin University in 1956. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army and honorably served from 1957-1959.
Richard leaves behind a legacy of education in Grundy County. His career began at Saratoga School, where he taught music, German and social studies from 1962 until 1970. He then took a teaching position with Immaculate Conception School, where he instructed music and religion. Richard taught private piano and organ instruction for more than 30 years, and served as parish organist, chorale director and liturgist for Immaculate Conception for three decades.
Music and education continued to be significant throughout most of Richard's life, and he continuously strived to better his knowledge through workshops, seminars and efforts to better his craft of music and language.
Richard in past years enjoyed running and biking. He participated in local runs, and was proud to have completed a 1,400 mile bike tour around Lake Michigan. Traveling was a pass time in which he took pleasure, as well as baking in his home and appreciating classical music. Richard was a wonderful role model and was honored to have sponsored countless friends for their Confirmation, as well as assume the title and responsibilities of being a Godfather. He looked forward to being together with his Friday evening dinner group, and cherished spending time with the Benedictine priests from St. Bede on Saturday nights.
With faith as his constant guide, Richard Gilmour’s thoughtful and considerate demeanor, along with his patience and kind and giving heart, were just a few of the many things which drew others to his side. For these things and so much more, he will be fondly remembered.
Richard is survived by a host of wonderful friends, as well as several cousins. Those whom were particularly close, and remained by his side include Bill and Mary Beth Pfaff and their family, Madeleine, Valerie and Sophie Pfaff and Anna (Ryan) Anderson; Mark and Kimberly Roelant and their family, Grace and Cate Roelant and Nick Pershey.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
