Richard J. Marizza Sr.

DIAMOND—Richard J. Marizza Sr., 84, of Diamond, passed away peacefully at his home, on Sunday, June 6, 2021, surrounded by his family.
He was born on June 23, 1936 in Morris to Sam and Mary (nee Fioritto) Marizza. He grew up in the Coal City Area and graduated with the Coal City High School class of 1954. Richard married Sharon Knupp on Oct. 8, 1955 at the Assumption Catholic Church of which they were lifelong members. He was a mechanic and welder at Amoco Chemical Company, retiring in 1993.
Richard was a member of the Coal City Area Club where he loved to fish. He was an avid gardener and took pride in his lawn care. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Most of all, Richard loved his family and spending time with them.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sharon Marizza; his children: Rick (Laura) Marizza, Mike (Tammy) Marizza and Stephanie (Mike) Porterfield; his grandchildren: Craig (Cindy) Pierard, Mike (Dani) Marizza and Stephan (Whitney) Porterfield; his great-grandchildren: Dalton Dugard, Laynah Pierard and Landyn Pierard with one great-grandaughter due in July. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Mary Marizza; his brothers, Don (Mary) Marizza and Ray Marizza; his father and mother-in-law, George and Diana Knupp and his brother-in-law, Max Knupp.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Assumption Catholic Church Building Fund.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorial Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 12 noon on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at the Ferrari Funeral Chapel, 1044 Ferrari Drive, Coal City, IL. 60416. Memorial Funeral Service will be at 12 noon following the visitation, also at Ferrari Funeral Chapel, with Deacon William Dunn officiating. Inurnment will be private at Braceville-Gardner Cemetery where Richard will be laid to rest on his 85th Birthday.
