Ron Stefick

WILMINGTON—Ron “Dirty” Stefick, 68, of Wilmington, and formerly of Chicago, passed away Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018 at his home.
Born March 29, 1949 in Oak Park, IL, Ron was a son of George and Mildred (nee Karel) Stefick. He was raised and educated in Chicago, and went on to enter into the United States Army on April 28, 1969. During his tenure in the service, Ron served in Germany and earned the National Defense Medal, Sharpshooter (M-14) and Expert (M-16). He was honorably discharged as a Combat Engineer on April 21, 1971 and fulfilled his obligation in the United States Army Reserves on April 27, 1975. Following his formal active service, Ron returned to civilian work as a construction worker, and later gained employment with Mack Truck of Joliet, from where he retired. Ron moved to Wilmington in 1992, and was a member of the Wilmington Moose Lodge, as well as ABATE of Grundy County. Ron loved to spend time on his motorcycle, and looked forward to taking bike trips with his friends. He also loved spending time at “The Bus” with his animals and chasing chickens.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy (nee Mikulan) Stefick, of Wilmington; one son, Scott (Laura) Stefick and the mother of his son, Connie Petersen, both of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Robert (Cynthia) Stefick, of Kansas, OK; one sister-in-law, Cheryl (Tony) Caponigro, of Chicago and one nephew, Craig Stefick.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and a memorial visitation will be Friday March 23, 2018 at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Rd., in Wilmington from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral procession will depart immediately after the visitation for inurnment with full military honors at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood at 2 p.m.
