Ronald Stockman

COAL CITY—Ronald Gary Stockman, 79, of Coal City, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 21, 2023.
Ron was born on Aug. 21, 1943 in Glencoe, MN to John and Ruth (nee Uecker) Stockman. He was raised in Stewart, MN on a family farm. He attended schools in that area, and when in high school, Ron was one of eight wrestlers to make the state tournament in his weight class. He received his B.S. in Business at Mankato State University. He served honorably with the Minnesota Army National Guard. Ron married Cheryl L. Bumgardner on Dec. 30, 1972 at the Theodore Street Lutheran Church in Crest Hill. Together, they raised their family of two children. He worked as a purchasing manager for most of his career at Insta Foam/Dow Chemical in Joliet.
Ron was a humble, quiet and generous man of strong faith. He was an active member through the years with the United Lutheran Church of Gardner. Ron enjoyed gardening and canning. He was a football fan and cheered for the team of his home state, the Minnesota Vikings. He also enjoyed watching old westerns and Perry Mason.
He is survived by his children, Jodi (Shawn) Chapman, of Coal City and Ronny (Stephanie) Stockman, of Braceville; his four grandchildren: Nathan, Ryan and Brooke Chapman and Morgan Stockman; his sisters: Almira Polzin, Arlene Torgerson and Audrey Weber; his brother, Earl (Kathy) Stockman; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Pam (Tom) Jaronski and Robin (Arlan) Hogan and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl; his parents, John and Ruth Stockman; his infant sister, Doris Stockman; his brother, Wayne Stockman and his brothers-in-law: Jim Weber, Vernon Polzin and Charles “Bum” Bumgardner.
Memorials in Ron’s name may be made to the United Lutheran Church, 309 E. Jefferson St., Gardner, IL 60424 or to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in Gardner with Pastor Greg Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Braceville Gardner Cemetery.
