Seven aspiring leaders attend FBLA workshop

The Coal City High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) sent seven members to the organization’s annual summer leadership workshop in Springfield.
An energetic conference provided opportunities for members to network with students from across the state and sparked the students with many new ideas and provided them with the time needed to plan activities for their local chapter in the coming school year.
“It was a very good learning opportunity and a positive experience. This workshop has helped to prepare me to be this year's president in Coal City's chapter,” said Molly Stiles.
Chapter officer Lynzie Norris had similar thoughts saying, “It is a really good opportunity to get to know people from other chapters and to work towards being the developed leader you strive to be.”
During the conference four students received the Aspiring Business Leader Scholarship. The award recognizes a student's business leadership potential that will meet the needs of careers in government, business, industry and the field of education.
The scholarship is designed to promote leadership development from participation in Illinois FBLA-PBL Summer Leadership Workshop. Stiles and Norris were honored with the award, as were chapter officers Emma Cook and Emma Charles.
Also in attendance at the three-day workshop last week were reporter Lauren Ferrari and members Nick Cook and Logan Hawkins. The chapter is advised by business education teacher Harlan Kennell.
