Voter registration now open for General Primary Election

Grundy County Clerk, Kay Olson, reminds voters that the deadline to register to vote  for the March 20 General Primary Election is Tuesday, Feb. 20.
“If voters have moved or changed their name, they will need to update their voter registration. We rely on information from the Secretary of State and other state agencies for the transfer of updated information, but this information does not always make it to our office in a timely manner,” Olson said.
Therefore, it's good practice to either check with the Clerk's Office in person, by phone or email, or online through the Clerk's or the Illinois State Board of Elections websites.
Citizens new to the county are also encouraged to register to vote. An applicant may register in person at the Clerk's Office, or obtain an application online through the Clerk's website or through the online registration system through the State Board of Elections at https://ova.elections.il.gov/.
If a voter knows that he or she will be away from the County, or would merely rather Vote by Mail, the Clerk's Office is accepting by Vote by Mail applications and holding them in office until the first day to distribute. The first day to issue a ballot is Feb. 8.
Olson also reminds voters that the March Primary is a partisan election, so election judges are required to ask voters at the polls if they want a Democratic or Republican ballot. Voters may also ask for a Non-Partisan ballot, if available for their particular voter code, but the ballot will only contain local referenda and no candidates.
All of the above information can be found on the Clerk's website under 'Election Information' at www.grundyco.org. For questions regarding the March 20 General Primary Election, voters may contact the Clerk's Office at 815-941-3222, or email elections@grundyco.org.
The Clerk's office is located in the Grundy County Courthouse, 111 E. Washington St., Room 12, Morris, open monday through friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and will be open for registration only, on saturday, Feb. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon.
