Water repairs force boil order

On Tuesday, Coal City’s Public Works Department announced a planned water outage.
Water is slated to be shut off to homes and businesses in a four-block area east of Broadway and west of Kankakee Street from Willow north to Carbon Street between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22.
The water shut off is required for maintenance personnel to conduct water main repairs in the north-south alley between Broadway and Kankakee streets.
Village officials say the need to replace the water main was discovered after the water tower located at the village hall was taken down earlier this month.
The water shut off will force a boil order to be implemented once the repairs are completed. The order is expected to be in effect for 24 to 48 hours after service resumes.
Signs will be posted in the impacted area regarding the boil order and when its lifted.
Village administrator Matt Fritz said the village appreciates the understanding of its affected residents and business owners, as the village works to ensure everyone is provided with safe and adequate drinking water.
