The Coal City Police Department will welcome a new patrol officer next week, maybe two.
It was at the direction of the Village Board that the Fire and Police Commission initiated a search for officer candidates, the goal to hire three officers to fill open spots within the patrol division.
Two of the spots were vacated earlier this year when officers Kady Sassenger and Brian Pustz accepted positions with other departments. A third spot was available due to reassignments within the department that resulted from the retirement of the former chief.
