Student orientation starts Friday

Orientation events for Coal City School District students begin this week, as Coal City High School will welcome the class of 2029 in for freshman orientation on Friday, Aug. 1.
All freshmen students are encouraged to attend in order to learn more about freshman year and the opportunities available as a high school student.
Orientation will be held at the high school from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Students are to be dropped off and picked up from the Events Entry on the west side of the school.
Orientation for students attending Coal City Middle, Intermediate and Elementary Schools will take place on Monday, Aug. 4.
Coal City Middle School’s WEB Leaders will welcome sixth grade students with last names beginning with A-L from 8-9:30 a.m. and students with last names starting with M-Z from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Students should enter at Door 8 [gym entrance] and be dropped off at least 5 minutes prior to their scheduled orientation session.
Seventh and eighth grade students new to the school district are invited to take part in orientation activities at the middle school beginning at 11:30 a.m.
New Student Orientation for fourth and fifth grade students will be held at 9 a.m. at Coal City Elementary School and second and third grade students new to the district are to attend orientation at the Elementary School starting at 10 a.m.
The first day of student attendance for the 2025-2026 school year is Wednesday, Aug. 13.

The Unit #1 Board of Education has set student registration and cafeteria fees for the upcoming academic year. Registration fees for students for the 2025-2026 school year are due on or before Sept. 1.

Registration opens for high school fall athletics
Coaler athletes planning to participate in a fall sport at Coal City High School–cheerleading, boys soccer, football, girls tennis, boys/girls golf or volleyball—must register prior to the first day of practice on Aug. 11.
There is a one time annual fee—$25—for IHSA sponsored events. A link to the registration site is available on the district website, www.coalcityschools.org, within the athletics tab.
Back-to-School Nights scheduled
Students will get the opportunity to meet their teachers during Back-to-School Nights starting on Tuesday, Aug. 12.
The Early Childhood Center will be open from 3:30-5 p.m.; Elementary School from 4:45-6:15 p.m.and Intermediate School [at the Elementary School] from 6-7:30 p.m.
Coal City Middle School will host its Back-to-School Night on Tuesday, Aug. 19 from 6-7:30 p.m.
Students at Coal City High School will be open Friday, Aug. 8 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for students and their families to come in and walk their schedule and stock their lockers with school supplies.
