Wildcats to play at state Friday

For the first time in 19 years the Wilmington baseball team has won a Super Sectional, advancing to the Final Four State Tournament.
The Wildcats upended Peoria Notre Dame, 5-0 on Monday to claim the Geneseo Super Sectional.
Junior pitcher Kyle Farrell threw over 100 pitches, striking out 11 batters and giving up only one hit through all seven innings. He was backed up by error-free fielding to improve the Wildcat record to 27-1 overall.
Dierks Geiss broke the ice in the first inning with a single to drive in two runs. Lucas Rink ended up 3-for-4 at the plate while Ryan Kettman had a pair of hits.
Wilmington will play St. Anthony's of Effingham, a 5-0 winner over Mount Carmel, at 7 p.m. on Friday in Dozer Park in Peoria, IL. The winner of that Class 2A semi-final will advance to Saturday's 1st place game at 7 p.m. The loser will play at 4 p.m. Saturday to decide the third place winner.
