CCMS in driver’s seat as playoffs begin

The Coal City Middle School A baseball team wrapped up the regular season winning three more games last week.
The Coalers begin regional playoffs this week with a 17-2 record

Rylan DeMichele drove in four runs on two hits to lead CCMS past Prairie Central in 5 innings on Thursday at Prairie Central.
DeMichele hit a home run to left field in the second scoring two, doubled in the first scoring one, and hit a sacrifice fly in the third scoring one.
The Coalers scored eight runs in the third inning on the way to victory. Braxton Krause singled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, DeMichele hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Kiptyn Dearth singled, scoring two runs, and Krause singled, scoring two runs.
Coal City added five more runs on five hits in the top of the second inning. Caleb Hall singled, scoring one run, Phoenix Senodenos singled, scoring one run, Maddox Meents grounded out, scoring one run, and DeMichele homered to left field, scoring two runs.
Meents earned the win on the mound. The starter allowed no hits and one run over two innings, striking out three and walking three. Carter Shain pitched three innings in relief allowing five hits and three runs (two earned) while, striking out seven and walking one.
Senodenos (RBI), Jonah Micetich, Krause (RBI), and DeMichele (homer, double, 4RBI) each collected two hits. Hall, Dearth(2 RBIs), Shain (RBI), and Carter Wix, added hits.
Streator Northlawn 1,
Coal City 8
Maddox Meents collected three hits as the Coalers defeated Streator Northlawn on Wednesday at home. Meents singled in the second inning, doubled in the fourth inning, and singled in the first inning.
Connor Rodriguez earned the win for Coal City. The starting pitcher allowed five hits and one run over five innings, striking out eight and walking one. Jace Ratazak pitched two innings of zero-run ball in relief. The pitcher allowed zero hits, striking out two and walking none.
Caleb Hall (double), Phoenix Senodenos (RBI), Jonah Micetich (RBI), Rylan DeMichele (RBI), Braxton Krause, and Jaxon Brewick added hits in the win. Coal City will travel to Prairie Central Hawks their next game on Thursday.
Pontiac 0, Coal City 9
CCMS defeated Pontiac on Monday thanks in part to six runs in the first inning.
Kiptyn Dearth earned the win on the mound. The righty allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings striking out six and walking
none. Carter Wix pitched four innings in relief allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out two and walking one. Jaxon Brewick came on to nail it down with 1 inning of scoreless, hitless relief striking out one.
The Coalers banged out 14 hits. Phoenix Senodenos (double), Brewick (2RBI), and Dearth (RBI) each collected two hits for Coal City. Connor Rodriguez (2RBI), Jaxon Ksiazak (double, RBI), Jace Ratazak (RBI), Christopher Titus (RBI), Maddox Meents, Luca Chellino, Daniel Bergin, and Wix all added hits in the game.
