Coal City man dies after vehicle crashes into Nettle Creek

AN AMBULANCE ARRIVES at Nettle Creek in Morris after a vehicle crashed and flipped into the body of water near Ottawa Bend Drive on April 11.

Sean Michael Rentauskas, 21, of Coal City, died late Saturday after his vehicle left the roadway and entered Nettle Creek in Morris.
According to authorities, emergency crews were called at approximately 11:30 p.m. April 11, to the area of Ottawa Bend Drive at the west branch of Nettle Creek after receiving reports of a vehicle in the water.
Police said the vehicle had been traveling east on Old Stage Road and was approaching a curve near the entrance to Gebhard Woods when the driver failed to negotiate the curve and left the roadway, entering the creek.
Dive teams responded to the scene and removed the occupant from the submerged vehicle. The driver was transported to Morris Hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Sunday morning.
The Grundy County Coroner’s Office identified the driver as Rentauskas, and said he was the only occupant in the vehicle.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing the crash shortly before emergency crews arrived.
The incident remains under investigation by the Morris Police Department and the Grundy County Coroner’s Office.
