Farmer’s market returning for another season

Locally sourced produce and handcrafted items are the centerpiece of the village of Coal City’s farmer’s market, and the concept will be expanded as Market Fresh on Broadway enters its third season.
The farmer’s market committee gathered last week to begin planning for the 2018 season. The first order of business was to set market dates.
Once again, the markets will be held in Campbell Memorial Park. This year they will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following Saturdays—July 21, August 4 and 18 and September 1 and 15.
The committee also hopes to add a couple of weeknight markets, one in July and another in September, however those dates will not be finalized until an adequate number of vendors have confirmed participation.
Since its inaugural season, the market has continued to grow with new vendors and a steady flow of customers looking for farm fresh produce, homemade pies and baked goods, jams, jellies, gourmet popcorn, soaps and other personal care items.
A number of vendors have indicated their intent to return for another season. The committee maintains a list of vendors it reaches out to in hopes of expanding the offerings available to shoppers.
In addition to the various items offered by vendors, the markets provide the community with entertainment by local groups and individuals, health and wellness classes and something for  youngsters.
Additionally, the park concession stand is open to local groups and food trucks.
Vendors, food purveyors, local organizations and entertainers interested in participating in the markets can learn more by contacting Linda Sula at the Coal City Village Hal, 815-634-8608.
Market Fresh on Broadway is sponsored by the village of Coal City and its Park Board, with additional support from Sunshine Garden Center, Free Press Newspapers—The Coal City Courant, Three Rivers Association of Realtors and Grundy County Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
