Firefighters quick to extinguish Outer Dr. house fire

FLAMES RISE through the roof of a home in the 600 block of South Outer Dr., Wilmington after 1 p.m. Monday.

The Wilmington Fire District was called to the 600 block of South Outer Dr.  around 1 p.m. on Monday for a reported structure fire. 

Based on dispatch information received, a Full Still level response for mutual aid was requested while enroute to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the front overhead garage door and back of the residence with fire also coming from the rear of the home. 

The fire extended from the point of origin into the attic spaces of the home however Wilmington firefighters along with several other fire departments were able to gain control of, and extinguish the fire before it extended any further. 

The residence was unoccupied at the time of the incident and no injuries occurred to civilians or firefighters as a result of the fire. The MABAS Division 15 Cause and Origin Team was requested to assist with the fire investigation. The fire was a second call in progress for the Fire District with several area Fire Districts assisted handling an additional three EMS responses while crews were busy on the structure fire.
