Coal City’s varsity softball team dropped its third game in a row since the season opener.
The Lady Coalers wound up losing to Bishop McNamara, 12-6, as they were unable to produce any offense until late in the game. It also didn’t help that Coal City had five errors on defense.
The Fighting’ Irish took the initial lead in the first inning, and never looked back, as they jumped out, 3-0.
They added four more runs in the third and three more in the sixth before Coal City responded.
The Lady Coalers would tally three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh, but it was a little too late.
Despite an early struggling offense, Coal City still wound up with eight hits in the game.
Sydney Miller led the offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate with one double, two RBIs and one run scored.
Abbie Cullick, Leah Campos, Madison Emerson, Kristyn Daigger, Cali Caruso and Sam Olsen all had hits as well.
Emerson added three RBIs off her triple.
In the pitcher’s circle, Leslie Youskevtch suffered the loss, putting in three innings of work.
She surrendered seven runs (three earned) off eight hits, while striking out three.
Alivia Phelps came on for the remaining four innings. She let up five runs (two earned) off six hits, walked four and struck out two.
