Marschner places second at state

This past weekend, three members of the Reed-Custer Middle School wrestling program traveled to Dekalb, IL to compete in the IESA Wrestling State Finals.
Ryan Tribble, Brenden Tribe and Kody Marschner each had high goals going into the tournament, and had an excellent week of training.
Tribe (105) had a very exciting first round match against Havana’s Bryar Lane in the preliminary round. He  unfortunately wound up falling 5-1 by the end of the match. Tribe finishes his phenomenal season with a record of 30-9.
Tribble (90) also had a successful tournament, finishing as a top 10 wrestler in the state.
He defeated his first two opponents before falling to Iam Correa from Sandwich in the quarterfinal round, 1-0. Tribble was able to bounce back to pick up a win against Michael Popp from Richmond, 8-4.
He ended his journey in the next round though, suffering a 3-0 loss to Brock Smith from Port Byron Riverdale, holding a 33-8 record on the season.
Marschner (185) came in to the state finals with a perfect record of 33-0, starting off with a quick pin over his first opponent, Caleb Christiansen from Libertyville in 50 seconds.
In the quarterfinals, Marschner defeated Nate Schaefer from Morrison (9-0), and followed that up with a semifinal win against Just Muller from Woodridge (Fall, 1:59).
Marschner wound up coming up just a bit short in the finals, suffering a loss to Jack Weltha from Bloomington (Fall, 1:34), but wound up securing second place in state.
“We were very pleased with the performances of all three state wrestlers, and had a great amount of fun being on the big stage in the finals,” said head coach Yale Davis. “We ended with a simple statement, ‘Training for next year starts today’.”
