Mincey appointed to Coal City Village Board

One of the first decisions Dave Spesia had to make as the village’s new mayor, was who would take his seat at the table as trustee.

The decision took him back to a chance meeting he had with Bill Mincey.

While campaigning for mayor, Spesia would drive around town and the various subdivisions and when he saw a resident outside he would pull over, introduce himself and engage in conversation.

One day as he was traveling down Fourth Street he observed Mincey bringing in his garbage cans, so he pulled over to introduce himself and the two spend around 40 minutes chatting in the driveway.

Before leaving, Mincey told Spesia that if he was elected to remember him as he would like to get involved in the community.

When the election results were finalized, Spesia reached out and the two met for a 90 minute or so breakfast meeting that resulted in Mincey accepting an offer to fill out the remaining two years of Spesia’s trustee term.

On Wednesday, the Village Board unanimously accepted the mayor’s appointment of Mincey. In turn, he was administered the oath of office and took his seat at the board table.

Mincey is a retired firefighter who has also worked in law enforcement.
