Woman arrested for filling fraudulent prescription

Doc’s Drugs of Wilmington contacted the police early Monday afternoon, May 1, to report that someone was trying to pick up a fraudulent prescription.
While en route, the officers were advised that the offender had left the store in a blue Nissan. They spotted a vehicle in a parking lot on Water Street that matched the vehicle’s description and stopped to investigate.
When the officer approached the car they saw the front seat passenger, later identified as Tanaya Mitchell, laying completely flat in the vehicle, with the seat fully reclined. The officers reported that Mitchell was acting nervous.
The complainant at Doc’s Drugs advised one of the investigating officers that a female, whose physical description and clothing matched Mitchell, attempted to pick up a fraudulent prescription of Promethazine-Codeine.
Further investigation revealed that Mitchell was wanted by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for a previous arrest for unlawful acquisition of a controlled substance. She was placed under arrest and brought to the Wilmington police station for processing.
The Will County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony charges against Mitchell, 30, of Chicago, for unlawful acquisition of a controlled substance. Mitchell was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility in Joliet to await a bond hearing.
Bond was set at $115,000, of which 10 percent would have to be remitted for release. However, Mitchell is on hold for DuPage County
The Wilmington Police Department is now working with other area police departments that have had similar incidents reported to determine if there may be any relation.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, drinking Promethazine-Codeine mixed with soda was referenced frequently in some popular music beginning in the late 1990s, and has become increasingly popular among youth in several areas of the country.
