     Victor Hugo’s 1862 novel, “Les Misérables,” and the musical that followed 118 years later is a story of love and compassion, redemption and forgiveness.
    Hugo’s story has captured the awe of millions of theater goers since the stage version opened more than 35 years ago. It’s an emotional tale of characters with dreams and desires, who love, hate and die for what they believe in.  

Seniors set for final stage show at CCHS

With just one week till opening night of “Les Miserables,” seniors Koren Frideres and Savannah Magee  are preparing for their final stage productions at Coal City High School.
Both girls have been involved in other high school shows.
Magee is more comfortable working backstage. She helped tech the school’s fall plays, such as “Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” she was also behind the curtain for “Little Shop of Horrors” in 2016.

No strangers to the stage

     For this week’s installment of Cast Chats, the spotlight is on Coal City High School seniors Rebecca Connelly and Brenna Kelly, who play as ensemble characters in “Les Miserables.”
    Neither of the girls are strangers to the performing arts as both are either in school bands, speech, color guard, or have participated in the high school’s fall plays.
    Being seniors, Connelly and Kelly reflect on their high school career and what they may have done differently.

Cast members ready for challenges of “Les Mis”

      For the fifth installment of the Cast Chat, the spotlight is on  Ava Houston and Levi Counterman of Coal City High School’s production of “Les Miserables.”
    Counterman, a freshman at CCHS, has been cast as revolutionary leader Enjolras.
    Contrary to his friend Marius, Enjolras’ focus never wavers from the revolution. He is willing to die for his comrades and leads them passionately. Even with the odds stacked against him, Enjolras never backs down against the French authorities.

Musical veterans land big roles in “Les Miserables”

In the third installment of Cast Chats for Coal City High School's upcoming production of "Les Miserables," the newspaper sat down with female leads Lauren Phillips and Gabby Cinotto.
Both students will perform as selfless women who are willing to do anything to protect those they love.
Phillips character, Eponine, is love-struck for her best friend, Marius. She is the daughter of the Thenardier’s, although Eponine is more of a protagonist and is willing to lay down her life for her friends.
