All American returns to give advice to current Coaler athletes

     The Coal City Varsity Club welcomed a two-time All-American professional softball player to the CCHS auditorium Monday and the funny thing was is that she felt right at home.
    The guest was former Coaler standout Kirsten Verdun, who pitched her team to a 2010 state championship and  led the basketball team to their first Regional championship since 1997. She also helped her travel team   win the National Softball Association’s National title her senior year.

    The Coal City Varsity Club was recently treated to an annual presentation, where the group has a former or current professional athlete come in and speak with the students.
    This year, the club had the pleasure of meeting Blake Geoffrion, a former professional hockey player, who also became the first fourth-generation player in the league’s history, after his father (Dan), grandfather (Bernie) and great-grandfather (Howie Morenz) all played.
